Pull-Out Basket Sizes Explained: The 200–900 mm Cabinet Compatibility Guide

In short: pull-out basket sizing follows the cabinet’s internal carcass width, not the door size. Narrow spice pull-outs cover 200–300 mm cabinets, standard drawer baskets cover 350–450 mm, corner turntables need 550–800 mm corner units, and wide baskets, tall units and lift systems run 600–900 mm. The chart below maps every width to the hardware types actually manufactured for it.

If you buy kitchen storage hardware for a cabinet brand or a distribution line, sizing mistakes are the most expensive kind: a container of 400 mm baskets is worthless against an order book full of 450 mm cabinets. This guide is the same compatibility logic we use with cabinet makers every week, based on the sizes we actually produce.

How basket sizing works (the 60-second version)

  • The size on a basket spec sheet — “400 mm”, “600 mm” — refers to the nominal cabinet width the unit is designed for, not the basket’s own outer width.
  • The basket’s real outer width is always smaller: it must clear the cabinet’s internal walls and leave room for the runners. That is why a “400 mm” basket typically measures around 335–355 mm outside, depending on runner type.
  • Always confirm three numbers before ordering: nominal cabinet width, the basket’s W × D × H, and the minimum internal cabinet depth. All three are printed in the specification table on every SOWELLE product page.

The compatibility chart: 200–900 mm

Cabinet width What fits Typical use
200–250 mm Simple layer baskets, round/oval wire spice pull-outs, aluminum tall deep baskets Narrow filler cabinets beside the hob — the most requested “dead space” solution
300–350 mm Spice & seasoning pull-outs (round, flat, oval wire), stove shelf baskets Standard narrow base units; bottle and jar storage
400–450 mm Multi-purpose spice baskets, double waste bins, synchronized baskets, Monster pull-outs, magic corners (450) The volume segment — most base cabinets in modular kitchens
550–650 mm 360° turntables (550), 180° turntables (650), corner solutions L-shape corner units; width refers to the corner cabinet door module
600–800 mm Three/four-side drawer baskets, dish racks, lift systems, tall unit systems, shoe racks Wide base units, wall cabinet lift-downs, full-height pantry towers
900 mm Wide drawer baskets, dish racks, lift systems, tall units Oversize base units — common in North American and Middle East kitchens

Three sizing mistakes importers make

1. Ordering by door size instead of carcass width. Door overlays differ between framed (common in North America) and frameless cabinets. Hardware always follows the carcass.

2. Ignoring runner clearance. A basket that fits on paper can still rub if the cabinet uses thicker side panels than the standard 16–18 mm. Confirm internal clear width, not just nominal width.

3. Mixing corner logic with straight logic. A “700 mm corner unit” and a “700 mm base unit” need completely different hardware. Corner solutions are specified by the corner module and door opening, and each model lists its own minimum door width.

How to spec an order in one email

Send your supplier these five lines and you will get an accurate quotation on the first pass: target cabinet widths and quantities per width; carcass internal depth and height; framed or frameless construction; preferred wire type (round / flat / oval) and finish; destination market.

FAQ

Are pull-out basket sizes universal between brands?
The nominal widths (400, 600, 900 mm) are industry conventions, but outer dimensions and runner positions differ between manufacturers. Never assume two brands' "600 mm" baskets are interchangeable — compare the W × D × H line.

What is the smallest cabinet a pull-out works in?
In our range, 200 mm — a simple layer or round wire spice pull-out. Below that width the usable storage does not justify the hardware.

Which sizes should a distributor stock first?
For most markets: 400/450 mm multi-purpose baskets plus 600 mm drawer baskets cover the bulk of demand, then add corner units. Ask us for the size mix we see ordered for your region.

Do you supply non-standard widths?
Yes — as an OEM program. Custom widths, depths and wire gauges are available subject to order quantity; sampling is confirmed against your carcass drawings.

Where do I find exact dimensions per model?
Every product page on sowellespace.com lists a full specification table: model number, nominal cabinet size, W × D × H, material, surface finish and colors.
